Ishikawa Prefecture History Museum

Today we had another field trip the the Ishikawa Prefecture History Museum.

Ishikawa Prefecture History Museum

I'll highlight some of the interesting things we saw, but it was all in Japanese, so it was a little hard to discern:

A mock-up of an old weaving factory i think

Old cannon

The professor was telling us about a cannon in this museum, probably this one (it was the only one I saw), which was a replica of a historical cannon. But then it was realized that the original cannon was actually made out of bronze, and would have exploded if ever fired. Must have just been for show.

They let you try on samurai armor

Human powered car

Roof tile from the original Kanazawa Castle

Old style school lighting and textbooks

This is how the lighting would have looked in the old schools, and the single copies of textbooks here were shared with the entire class in the times that these different lighting styles were used.

Old street car

The destination of the street car

The destination pictured here had a lot of amusements including an all women theater group that still does performances today, although this particular part of town is now housing, so I'm not sure where they perform.

Russian Officer prisoners of war from the Russo-Japanese War

These officers of the Russian army were prisoners of war, but they were treated exceptionally well. They were imprisoned within Kenroku-en, which some people surely wouldn't mind living in. During this period, Japan was trying to prove they could abide by international law, but I'm not sure why it so quickly went downhill in WWII.

A hood from air raid drills during WWII, and i think a hand grenade casing

A farewell banner for the troops leaving from Kanazawa station going to war in WWII

After the museum, we went shopping downtown. We went up to the top of a department store, and they had a play place for children on the roof. There was a nice view from up there:

Back at the museum, we had watched a historical video of this area of town from the early 1900s, I filmed it with my camera:

After that we went back home, and I had to start working on a presentation for Monday.
