Last Karaoke

Today in class, we had a guest speaker, Nik Nedig, who was a participant in this study abroad program just last two years ago I believe. Since then, he completed his masters degree and found a job with Goldman Sachs Japan Holdings. He was a programming major, and he works on the companies infrastructure for managing transactions and such. Living in Tokyo, he has a pretty small apartment, probably a lot smaller than our rooms here at Nishikawa Heights, and it's decently expensive. In the realm of NYC prices for housing probably.

He told us about how he's doing at his new job, and gave a presentation for a full two hours about what things are like living in Tokyo, how to find a job in Japan, and how to best study Japanese after the program. He was a really nice guy, and I found out later from his immigration card that he was born in Massachusetts. He told me afterwards that he was raised in Westborough, MA, which is just on the other side of Worcester, a large town in MA, from where I grew up. He was a big fan of Tortilla Sam's, a great Mexican restaurant that we apparently both used to frequent. We both agree that Japanese Mexican food is a little lacking. I don't even know if I've seen a Mexican place here yet.

But since this is our last weekend here, everyone decided to go out for Karaoke tonight. We left at about 8:30PM, walked to the Shidax karaoke place (maybe 20 min walk), and then partied it up big time. It's 30$ so it's a bit expensive, but that's for unlimited time, and unlimited drinks, including alcohol.

We had 3 rooms because we brought so many people, and we had a ton of fun. Since it was unlimited, I probably had way too much to drink, I felt kind of sick the next morning. I thought I was going to throw up. But it was so much fun. The Japanese songs are good practice for reading Japanese faster. When I looked at the clock after I got home and went straight to bed, it was past 3AM.
